New Name - Same Team

David Ryan began his construction career in Canberra in 1979.

Working on numerous construction sites in and around the ACT. In 1985, he bought his first house which he extensively renovated and extended. With his partner they continued his passion renovating and extending many homes throughout the 90’s, whilst operating a CSR Readymix Concrete Cartage Business. He found he had an eye for structure, design and detail as much as being pedantic.

After the birth of his daughter Elvie, motivated with his dreams to build professionally, he attended TAFE in the evenings to gain his Builders Licence.

From 2000, David traded professionally as Wombat Hillton Pty Ltd. David’s flare is in designing, renovating and extending homes in the inner Canberra as well as building New Homes.

David's signature home that he designed and built was completed in 2010 which is featured in the 2010 MBA Builders Awards and Magazine.

In January 2020, Wombat Hillton Pty Ltd parted ways with a national franchise to create David Ryan Homes.

Built on family and passion, we are here to design and build your dream home. Why choose us? We're the Wright builder.

Who We Are: About

Step 1: Free Consultation & Design

We meet with you to have a detailed discussion about your ideas, requirements, plans and budget to get a sense of exactly what you’re looking to achieve and develop your brief. Ensuring a cost effective and energy efficient design, a non-contractual estimate is provided based on our standard inclusions. If you have a particular block in mind or have already purchased it, we evaluate the contours and orientation of your block of land and provide valuable insights for consideration in the design process.

Step 2: Plans & Proposal

We will develop your design brief based on our consultation with you and the building consultant. Following this collaboration, a concept design and cost estimate proposal is presented to you for discussion and feedback. It is anticipated that there may be some revisions and meetings with you before we engage the architect to prepare the concept plans. Upon receipt of the plans a draft contract along with an estimated construction timeline is prepared and presented.

Step 3: Building Approvals

Once the initial design concept and estimate is accepted we commence soil testing, engineering reviews and final drawings. Documents provided during this stage include the building contract, working drawings, specifications, contract spreadsheet and guarantee documentation are signed. After contracts have been signed we will prepare and lodge the building consent application and any other required paperwork with your local council. We will work through any complications if they arise to make certain that all legalities and regulations are met.

Step 4: Construction Starts

After council consented plans are received, a build start date is determined in an agreement with you and an estimated timeline confirmed. Your build contract will outline the progress payments required at various stages of the build, so you have full transparency upfront of what will be required to be paid and conditions of payment. We strongly believe in making sure you are kept up to date with the progress of your project so throughout the build there will be regular meetings between yourself and your project manager. This is your opportunity to ask questions and be as involved as you’d like to be. David will visit the site personally to ensure the project remains on track and is completed to the highest quality.

Step 5: Quality Checks & Handover

Once the build is complete, your new home receives a complete professional clean before a thorough quality check is completed by our team and the final inspection is carried out by trustworthy certifiers. At this time, you will be invited to come and inspect your new home with your project manager. Once all parties are satisfied, you will be given your keys and an information pack outlining the house and product warranties and it will be explained by a member of our team.
